"...Anzac Park, Toowong, the first place in the world to bear that historic title, it is understood."

Help save ANZAC Park Toowong from becoming a construction workforce car park for Brisbane City Council's 'Legacy Way'. In October 2010 BCC proposed the site. On 10 December 2010 we filed in the Supreme Court of Queensland an application for an injunction. On 16 December 2010 the 'Coordinator-General's Change Report' refused the proposal for the car park. In February 2011 BCC returned with two options to destroy the park-ANZAC Park North and the Dog off-leash area. On 5 April 2011...SAVED!
On 23 May 2010 Lord Mayor Campbell Newman planted the one millionth tree of his Two Million Tree Project in ANZAC Park using volunteers from the local community, (a worthwhile activity but not an original one). Volunteers have been planting trees in ANZAC Park since the beginning of last century. The BCC’s proposal to destroy ANZAC Park by using it as a car park for the Legacy Way construction workers was refused December 2010 by the Coordinator-General, QLD Government, Department of Infrastructure and Planning, however BCC have said they will now undertake a detailed study of the site for the purposes of perhaps submitting another proposal – mindbogglingly disgusting!
ReplyDeleteIt seems that local solicitors have been actively involved in taking care of ANZAC Park, at their own expense, for the last century.
ReplyDeleteMaybe lawyers serve a useful purpose after all!
ReplyDeleteWithout local lawyers/Toowong residents working recently for many hours at no cost to the community, ANZAC Park would have been bulldozed by now!Just like those other thousands of pro bono hours lawyers do in this city with no thanks at all from the public.
